Live Music Lab Gets a Facelift

Do you want to take your performance to the next level? Our Live Music Lab has always been a safe space for songwriters that wish to hone their performance chops. Now the Co-op is taking it to another level to help prepare you better!

On the second Sunday of every month, we will gather from 2:00-4:00 PM.

The first hour (2:00-3:00) will remain much as it has been -- participants will be welcome to perform songs (originals or covers, new or old) and receive feedback on their performance from their peers.

Now, the second hour (3:00-4:00) will feature speakers on the topic of musical performance.  The goal is to hear what experienced performers and those in the music business have to say about the mental and physical approaches to the craft of performance, ask questions, and inspire you to get yourself ready to get out there and perform. Are you ready to take it to the next level?  See you Second Sunday!

We have two great speakers for our first two sessions!

October 10, 2010: Jonathan Byrd

"A stalwart of modern folk music, Jonathan is constantly evolving in new musical directions and each incarnation has proven to be masterful. Like a gourmet chef, Jonathan does not create the same dish twice, so we're not sure what he will bring to the table tonight. But if music were a meal, Jonathan would prepare us a banquet. Catch this Kerrville New Folk winner as often as you can; you'll never get 'full', your appetite will only grow."

November 14, 2010: Chris Titchner

In November of 2000, Chris Titchner moved to Raleigh, NC, from Burlington, in order to tap into the Triangle's prolific acoustic music scene. Titchner has focused on developing his solo career, and currently plays 3-4 gigs a month throughout North Carolina and beyond.

In 2003, Chris was a finalist in the Cat's Cradle Songwriting contest, and played over 50 gigs at 30 different venues from Vermont to New Orleans. Drawing from his experiences playing in a rock band and with a cellist, Chris's style has evolved into what can easily be described as acoustic folk rock. His catchy melodies and lyric-based songwriting have won him fans at coffeeshops, bars, bookstores, colleges, and fine restaurants alike.

In 2006, Chris' album Moving Day was a finalist for Folk Album of the Year by the readers of The Independent.  His current shows are often given the "Indypick" stamp of approval by that same publication.
